Assistant General Curator (Zoo) City of Montgomery is seeking a dedicated Assistant General Curator to lead daily animal care operations, support zoo-wide initiatives, and contribute to the strategic development of the City of Montgomery Zoo. Salary Compensation is based on a multi-step progression system. Pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training, and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations. Nature of Work Assist in leadership, planning, and coordination of daily animal care operations. Supervise zookeeping staff, husbandry routines, enrichment programming, and exhibit maintenance. Ensure high standards of animal welfare and regulatory compliance. Support zoo-wide initiatives related to animal management, staffing, training, and interdepartmental collaboration. Act as weekend Manager on Duty and collaborate with General Curator on operational planning, exhibit development, budgeting, and strategic animal collection decisions. Work under the supervision of the General Curator (Zoo). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of professional zoo experience in the care and management of animal collections. One (1) year experience supervising animal care staff. Candidate must possess the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. Special Requirements Exposure to adverse environmental conditions (dirt, dust, pollen, wet, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances). Willingness to handle, capture, and kill live rodents as needed to feed reptiles and other zoo animals. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Valid Alabama driver's license and insurable driving record for city vehicles. Medical exam required following a conditional job offer.
