The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Health System Perioperative Nurse Residency Program provides support for the new graduate nurse as they transition from nursing student to professional clinician. Our program is a full-time, 9-month program. The program provides nurse residents with a variety of opportunities to develop critical thinking skills related to clinical practice and safe patient care. The program is designed to develop new nurses as leaders and productive health care team members as they advance from novice to competent nurse.
Throughout the Perioperative Residency, service rotations are completed within University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital and Same Day Surgery.
The Buckeye Nurse Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Health System through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom and simulation experiences, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident will receive support from the Nurse Residency Director, unit Educator and unit managers as well as cohort peers.
